Insula Ruegen ( penninsula Jasmund )

The peninsula Jasmund is surrounded of the large and of the small Jasmunder Bodden, and the Baltic Sea. Two narrow land entrances lead to the main island. A further land connection leads to the peninsula Wittow. Jasmund is as nature beauty world - famous. At the east coast between Lohme and Sassnitz is the chalk coast, whose most well-known components are the king chair and the Wissower handles. The chalk coast and the adjacent forest form the national park Jasmund.Ferienwohnung Binz Sassnitz is the largest place of the peninsula and the second largest city of Ruegen. In the south the flint fields are located in Neu Mukran and in the northwest is the castle Spyker situated.

Across Sagard one reaches the most beautiful bath beaches of the hole island. The area captivates by its varied landscapes, with chalk breaks, damp meadows and waters. In the spring and autumn thousands of cranes and wild gooses can be observed at their lay-by.

Neu Mukran is called also gate to the Baltic and is situated between Sassnitz and Binz. The place serves as ferry connection to Sweden, Bornholm, St. Petersburg and numerous other cities. One of the oldest restaurants of the island Ruegen is the restaurant „to the case jug “ (Zum Hülsenkrug). Neu Mukran is also a unique experience for nature friends. In direction to the south it offers to the visitor nice  sand beaches and an impressive moving way leads the coast along until Sassnitz. A unique object of interest represent the flint fields  in Neu Mukran. These are situated in the protected area „narrow heath“ (Schmale Heide). The geological rare piece runs parallel to the waterfront of the Bodden and extends on a surface of 40 hectars. A rubble landscape, which is interspersed by trees, bushes and heath herb, shows up, storm tides raised it there before 3500 - 4000 years.

At 1889 the harbor construction in Sassnitz began. The port offered and offers the shortest sea lane to ScandinaviaOstsee. 1878 developed the Sassnitz - Rönne (Bornholm) connection and 1897 the connection to Trelleborg. Because the fishery  was for the city always important, a collective combine developed with up to 200 partial high-seaable fishing boats after the 2. World War. The trade area in Sassnitz Lanken in proximity of the ferry harbour offers firms the place for the mechanism of their enterprises. The chalk industry changed the landscape around Sassnitz and the tourism, Fgferry traffic and the fishery shaped considerably the architecture, then developed also hotel new buildings in the urban style. The port of Sassnitz with the longest (1450 m) external mole of Europe and its port atmosphere with fishing boats and yachts, built in 1889 - 1912, is very worth seeing. Also the close situated  shipping companies offer extensive travel programs for the cliffs and for the Rugian Baltic Sea baths.

The castle Spyker is 750 years old and the oldest received building. From 1648 to 1676 the Swedish general field marshal and later general gouvaneur for Pommern Carl Gustav count of Wrangel to Salmis lived in the castle. He made numerous changes, like the red castle front or the earlybaroque stucco ceilings at the first floor. In the 4ha large garden are 350 year old box trees and lime trees, as well as ashes, which were planted before 250 years.

Lohme still stands at the beginning of the tourism. 1855 it was selected as the 1. Ruegian seaside resort. One estimated its romantic nature, the chalk rock, the beech forests, the hill graves and its majestic situation on the steep bank. After 1945 Lohme came into oblivion and was 1989 again discovered. This oblivion retained its idyllic - romantic charm and is thereby a paradise for lovers, nature friends and hikers. The place is likewise well - known for its beautiful sun rises and sunsets with view to the Cap Arkona and the small sail port. Hotels, pensions, restaurants and arts and crafts also discovered this place now and settled there.

The former fishing village Glowe extends into the forest of the Schaabe inside. Only in the 20. Century grew the place and attracted ever more visitors. In the local part Ruschvitz should Klaus Störtebecker be born, which cannot be occupied however exactly. Apart from bath possibilities Glowe is also a popular angler district.

The national park Jasmund, in the vernacular also mentioned Stubbenkammer is the landmark of Ruegen, whose pictorial chalk coast with „the king chair" and „the Wissower handles" leads to dream.
